Getting StartedRoad Sign that reads Welcome to Hard Work

As you begin the process of developing your research proposal and working on other assignments for this and other courses, you probably are beginning to think that this will be a daunting task. But often, the harder you work on a complex task, the less daunting and anxiety provoking it becomes. This is why God mentions the importance of hard work so often in the Bible. Scripture talks a lot about working hard with happiness while serving God at school, your job, or any other place. Always work as if you were working for God and not your instructor or another person in authority.

Upon successful completion of this discussion, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate character, scholarship, and leadership in becoming a world changer through application of course content to personal life and professional social work practice.

Background Information

The Bible tells us that hard work always will bring some type of profit. When we think about profit, usually we think about money, but it can be anything. For example, hard work in school will lead to more knowledge (wisdom), a better job, and more life opportunities. The Bible says, “Idle hands never get anything done.” God looks down on laziness, but He shows that with hard work you can accomplish many things. When you are in God’s will, He will strengthen you daily and help you. Follow the examples of Christ, Paul, and Peter, who were all hard workers. Work hard, pray hard, and study Scripture hard. Rely on the Holy Spirit for help daily.

We pray that you store these Scripture quotes about hard work in your heart for inspiration and help during this course and beyond!

“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him”

Colossians 3:17.

“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ”

Colossians 3:23–24.

“Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatsoever you do, do all to the glory of God”

I Corinthians 10:31.

“Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying”

Romans 12:11–12.
