week5 dis assign
Each week, you will be asked to respond to the prompt or prompts in the discussion forum. Your initial post should be 75-150 words in length, and is due on Sunday. By Tuesday, you should respond to two additional posts from your peers.
Propose a Change
In your initial discussion post this week present an argument that proposes one change to our electoral system. (Please note, it will not be acceptable to say you do not think any change should be made.)
Several possible changes to could be:
- Eliminating the Electoral College
- Instituting required Voter ID
- Allowing felons to vote.
- Mandatory voting.
- Instituting an Election Day Holiday in which all Americans do not have to vote.
- You may also get creative and come up with your own original change!
Just be sure to go beyond just stating what change you want to make, but present an argument for why we should make that change and how that change would improve our electoral system.
In your argument, do not use words like “fair†or “good†or “better†or “equal†– how do you measure what is or is not “fair What if you and I have different definitions of what is or is not fair (these are not universal terms)?

Week 5 Discussion
One of the changes that I would make to our Electoral System would be to eliminate the Electoral College. Like anything else, there are pros and cons associated with it. My reason being for eliminating the Electoral College is because more people would probably get out and vote if they felt like their vote actually counted. Just thinking that you voted, but the Electoral College actually has the final say so in who is elected president is enough to deter anyone away from the polls. Selecting the president by popular vote would make the voters feel like they have a say in who actually runs our country.

Week 5
My propose to change
I propose a change to allow felons to vote. I believe that if the taxpayer is paying for the welfare of felon’s imprisonment then the felon should have the right to vote. ESPECIALLY, if they were of age and a registered voter prior to being incarcerated. I say any prisoner of age should be able to register to vote while incarcerated. To represent from their home of record and or their imprisonment home of record. Therefore, any minors who serve as a prisoner, of the legal age or will make the voting age while in jail, should be allowed the same rights. This should eliminate bias and less dependence on the electoral college. This should also stop the unacceptable demand for recounting ballots. Our technology is to far advance for these so-called ballot mistakes and uncertainties.

Party Platform Creation Activity
This week we learned about the important functions of political parties. You also had the opportunity to browse the Democratic and Republican Party platforms for your reading. In this activity, pretend you are in charge of inventing your own original political party and write a platform for your brand new political party.
Your platform and reflection essay should be at least 500 words long and address the following:
Part 1 – Your Platform
Name your party.
Identify and describe one domestic policy that your party would believe in. Give a paragraph description of that domestic policy. Be very detailed and specific in your description. (Domestic policy is anything that impacts how we live our lives within the borders of our nation.)
Identify and describe one specific economic policy that your party would believe in. Give a paragraph description of that economic policy. Be very detailed and specific in your description. (Economic policy is all those policies that impact the distribution and exchange of property, wealth, and capital. Think about things that impact money and how much you have and how you can make more.)
Identify and describe one specific foreign policy that your party would believe in. Give a paragraph description of that foreign policy. Be very detailed and specific in your description. (Foreign policy is how this nation interacts with other nations.)
Part 2 – Reflection Essay
Write an essay in which you compare and contrast each of your three policies, one at a time, to similar policies from the platforms of the Democratic and Republican parties. How are your policies similar to the policies of the two major parties? How your policies different from the policies of the two major parties? Be specific and include specific examples. Conclude your comparison and contrast essay by discussing which of the two major parties your political party most similar to?
Don’t forget to include a reference list.
