ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS

Students will complete an online presentation describing the end-of-life care of a case study example within a specific group. The presentation must have audio and visual components, such as a voice-over PowerPoint presentation. Students must use at least three peer-reviewed sources for their presentation. The presentation should be five – seven minutes in length and cover the following elements:

  1. Background of the group –
    • provides a description of the group including statistics or characteristics.
  2. Family and cultural considerations in end-of-life care –
    • provides information about special family or cultural considerations unique to this group
  3. Recommendation for interprofessional communication/ approach to end-of-life care planning –
    • provides a description of recommendations providers within the interprofessional team should consider when communicating with people within the group
  4. Specialized nursing care, therapy, or treatment required for this specific group –
    • provides a description of any specialized nursing care or therapy, such as a treatment or medication, that may be needed for this specific group at EoL
  5. Special considerations for after death and bereavement –
    • provides a description of special considerations needed for the family after death and during bereavement

Students may choose from the following options or have a different option approved by the instructor:

  • Newborn
  • Pediatric
  • Suicide
  • Accidental death
  • Special needs (developmental/ mental health)
  • Spiritual needs
  • Veterans
  • Homeless
  • LGBTQ

PRESENTATION FORMAT

This assignment is set to allow multiple types of submissions. Your presentation may just be a video of yourself talking, or it may have text and have a voice-over. You may upload a video file (MP4) or you may upload a weblink (such as youtube- you can set to private). You may also upload a powerpoint or google slide presentation.

The file must be less than 500 MB. This Canvas page has helpful information (Links to an external site.) about submitting a media assignment to Canvas.

Peer Review

After students have completed and posted their case study presentations, they will be required to view four case study presentations of their peers and provide a thoughtful, constructive response to their peers regarding new insights learned from the presentations (at least 150 words).

After the initial assignment due date, return to the assignment and click on ‘Peer Reviews.’ You will automatically be assigned four student presentations to review.
