Topic: Dr. Victor Frankenstein tells us: “Learn from me, if not by my precepts, at least by my example, how dangerous is the acquirement of knowledge and how much happier the man is who believes his native town to be the world, than he who aspires to become greater than his nature will allow.”

Discuss the character of Dr. Frankenstein before his two year isolation and then after his creation. What do his words mean about the “danger” of knowledge and the aspiration of greatness? How will these words haunt him at the end of Volume I, Chapter 8? Do you have any feelings toward Dr. Frankenstein at this juncture?
