PowerPoint presentation with 12-15 slides, including a title and reference slides. It will be graded on content, research, and creativity (see rubric). Your research integrated into the presentation should consist of 5-6 academic sources, including at least one journal article, Entwistle (2010), the Bible, and 2-3 additional sources. Also include 1-2 graphs, charts, and/or photos into your presentation.

Choose a psychological theory, project or topic below that can be explored in-depth from both psychological and theological perspectives that culminates in an integrative analysis. Include psychological research, theological scholarship, and integrative writings on the topic.

Topics:

  1. Compare and contrast Piaget’s theory of cognitive development to the process of Christian maturity.
  2. Compare research on diffusion of responsibility to biblical injunctions to care for widows, orphans, and the poor, etc.
  3. Look at the role of parents in instructing children about God and his designs through everyday interactions and through the communal liturgies and rituals prescribed in the Bible, and then compare this to research on memory formation and retrieval, learning paradigms, or parenting strategies.
  4. What are some of the implications of a philosophical anthropology that views human nature from a bio-psycho-social perspective combined with a theological view of humans as limited beings, image bearers, and fallen sinners?
  5. What factors might encourage a secular psychologist or a religious person to adopt the Spies paradigm (or Carter and Narramore’s of models)? What are the advantages and disadvantages of this paradigm?
  6. Participate in a group project that involves social action, such as volunteering in literacy programs, homeless shelters, or other settings in which you can reflect on the application of psychology and Christian belief to tangible problems that exist in your community.
