Also just to make things a little easier (or harder if you want to look at it this why) for you guys make sure you include the calculations for percent recovery in the typed portion you have to turn in. When doing the percent recovery calculation assume the masses of each thing in the mixture is 50/50 so if you weighed 0.7 grams of starting mixture the masses of each component would be 0.35 grams. Also for comparing the melting points with the starting mixture compare the experiment melting points of your purified compounds to the literature values of each 80-82 C for naphthalene and 158 – 161 °C for salicyclic acid.
